about nrco
The National Renewables Cooperative Organization (NRCO) is an innovative effort by the nation’s electric cooperatives to capitalize on all forms of renewable energy resources.
NRCO is a non-stock, not-for-profit corporation operated under a cooperative form of ownership, and is governed by its members. The board is composed of cooperative executives.
Membership in NRCO is open to generation and transmission cooperatives (G&T’s) and distribution cooperatives with the legal ability to buy power in the wholesale market. NRCO receives financial support from its members: each participant must commit $100,000, with an upfront investment of $25,000. As of August 2010, NRCO had 24 members in 19 states. Of these members, four are unaffiliated distribution cooperatives.
